Richard II offers a detailed exploration of the life and reign of one of England's most enigmatic monarchs. Born in 1367 in Bordeaux, France, Richard ascended to the throne at a young age, navigating the complexities of power, loyalty, and rebellion during a tumultuous period in English history.

Through this biography, Jacob Abbott delves into Richard's character, his relationships with key figures, and the political landscape of 14th-century England. The narrative captures the challenges he faced as a ruler, including his struggles with the nobility and the eventual consequences of his decisions.

Rich in historical context, Abbott's work not only chronicles Richard II's life but also reflects on themes of authority, legitimacy, and the nature of kingship. This audiobook invites listeners to engage with the intricacies of a king's life and the legacy he left behind.

Interesting history superbly read by Cathy Barratt. I learned a lot that I had not known before, and gained a better perspective on the selectivity of chivalry. Would recommend this for anyone interested in filling in some of the historical details that they missed in school.
