Five Children and It
von E. Nesbit
Gelesen von Jenny Lundak
This delightful novel begins when a family of five children moves from London to the English countryside. While playing in a gravel pit soon after the move, they discover an ancient and rather grumpy sand-fairy known as the Psammead, who agrees to grant one wish of theirs per day. The children’s wishes send them on adventure after adventure, but rarely turn out as expected. (Summary by Kara)

I love this performance!

Thank you, Grandma Jenny, for your excellent performance of 5 Children and It. Your delivery made the humor and old-timey British slang hit just right. I appreciated that you did some character voices, but didn't go overboard with it. Your comedic timing is impeccable. I tried reading the eBook for this, since I thought illustrations would bring it to life. However, I found myself reading in your voice inside my head and missed the real thing. I came back to this version over and over until I finished the entire book.

My kids and I love the Psamiad and Children in this story. The charm of the period combined with the fancy of their unwelcome adventures makes for captivating listening.
Wonderful, imaginative story

Sweet story of siblings who discover a sand fairy who grants wishes and all the difficulties induced by getting what one wishes for.

Thanks, Grandma Jenny, for a great reading of an imaginative and wonderful book. Those who enjoyed it should go listen to its sequel, The Phoenix and the Carpet! Plus all of Edith Nesbit's childrens' books. Some are fantasy, some are realistic, all are wonderful!
Grandma Jenny did a very nice job

Oh lord. The times, they are a changin'. Cute story, but historical euphemisms make it so I don't think I want to read it aloud to children anytime soon

"Grandma Jenny" excellently and amusingly narrates the story but the story itself promotes out-of-date notions of young boys and girls.
