Incidents of Childhood is a collection of short stories for young readers, set against the everyday life of early nineteenth-century England. Each story offers a glimpse of childhood in its time, with practical lessons woven into the events.

Rather than following one continuous plot, the book moves from one brief episode to another. Its historical setting and instructive approach make it a window into the conduct and concerns that children’s stories of the period sought to encourage.

Oh please! Must we have such strong regional American accents? Some of us are in England! Had to abandon another good book!

Thank heavens for kind volunteers who selflessly dedicate their time to record these books for everyone to access for free.
