Troilus And Cressida CBC

Richard Monette’s 2003 production of Troilus and Cressida for the Stratford (Ontario) Shakespeare Festival features David Snelgrove and Claire Jullien in the title roles. Set during the Trojan Wars, Shakespeare’s powerful drama explores themes of doomed love and the futility of war, while also delving into ethics, value, and the nature of truth.

This production, only the third in Stratford's history, is noted for its clarity in storytelling, contrasting the love story of Troilus and Cressida with the Greeks' attempts to rally their greatest hero, Achilles. Despite some directorial excesses, the performances, particularly by Bernard Hopkins as Pandarus and Stephen Ouimette as Thersites, stand out, bringing depth to the characters and the narrative.
