John Wyndham Trouble With Lichen

(4 Sterne; 16 Bewertungen)

Adapted for broadcasting by Archie Campbell, John Wyndham’s Trouble with Lichen tells the story of Diana Brackley, a revolutionary, a feminist, and a scientist. Francis Saxover and Diana Brackley, two scientists investigating a rare lichen, discover it has a remarkable property: it retards the aging process.

Francis, realizing the implications for the world of an ever-youthful, wealthy elite, wants to keep it secret, but Diana sees an opportunity to overturn the male status quo by using the lichen to inspire a feminist revolution. As each scientist wrestles with the implications and practicalities of exploiting the discovery, the world comes ever closer to learning the truth.

Trouble With Lichen is a scintillating story of the power wielded by science in our lives and asks how much trust should we place in those we appoint to be its guardians?

90 min adaptation

(5 Sterne)

Discovered this via the wiki article on the book, was dissapointed that it linked to a BBC page listing the cast but lacking the audio. Wiki mentions that there exists a 90 minute radio adaptation of the story, as well as a five part series which is a reading of the book. This is the former, contrary to the one star review. Good audio, looking forward to listening all the way through. https://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/a560834cc6b34d3cb004c3671af29cba https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trouble_with_Lichen

Uh, not sure what everyone else is talking about

But this is the 90minute audio adaptation from 1962. Not sure what everyone else was looking at, but this is not just one episode of the later reading. This is the radio drama, and it plays fine.

One episode of 5 part series
