"MA PERKINS" or "OXYDOL'S OWN MA PERKINS," was named after its original sponsor, Oxydol Laundry Detergent. The show was sponsored by Oxydol for a long time, but the sponsorship ended on November 30, 1956, with the final broadcast under Oxydol. Following that, the program was sponsored by a package of multiple sponsors.
Despite the changes in sponsorship, the program continued its story until November 25, 1960, when it aired its final broadcasts on CBS Radio along with five other remaining radio serials. Oxydol also sponsored various daytime serials on television.

A Coincidence?

Before the radio series, Ma Perkins, there was a very popular comic strip called, Polly and Her Pals. One of the characters in that strip was Ma Perkins. I wonder whether the creator of the radio series, Cliff Sterrett, was inspired by that character or was the same name just a coincidence? We may never find out! In any event, this is a very addictive show! Happy listening.
