Carolyn Wells always provides an enjoyable read and this one is probably one of her most intriguing murder mysteries. Vicky Van is a lithe, joyful and vibrant society woman beloved by all. A man named Sommers shows up uninvited at one of her famous parties. He is found murdered shortly after he follows her out of the card room and Vicky Van is seen standing next to him with blood on her dress. She disappears before the police arrive and is considered guilty. In spite of little notes she leaves here and there no one can find her or her maid Julie. Why did she kill a stranger? Why can't the police find her? This one will baffle Fleming Stone more than any other. - Summary by Celine Major (6 hr 9 min)

never would have guessed the end 😉

NICE AND TIDY

(5 stars)

A very compelling mystery. The reader does a fine job. as always. The solution was not seen by this listener. Perhaps you might solve it where I failed.

the best thing about this book is that it is has a refreshing plot. being somewhat different also lends to the mystery. I did enjoy it more as the notable detective and his street smart apprentice got evolved adding to the intriguing conclusion. thankyou to the excellent reader.

Good story

Enjoyed the story greatly. Some things I picked up on but mostly I had no idea how it was going to end. Narrator read very well and clear but speech was robotic. Didn’t stop me from enjoying it but annoyed me a bit

Great story

started to figure out one part towards the end, but the murderer was a total surprise and the reason for the murder as well.

Loved it!!

I found this to be quite excellent. A wonderful plot, interesting characters, all wrapped around a good twist or three.

As Good as an Agatha Christie

A who dunnit that must surely have been an inspiration for Agatha Christie's novels.
