Forget the birds. Land Prawns are coming!

(5 stars)

If anywhere should be a NO WHINING ZONE fGs (for God's sake) 99.99% volunteer-powered Librovox should. Complaining about four tiny electronic beeps in a LV sci fi story is wayy more annoying than the beeps. If anything, they add to the verisimilitude. beep beep! I can't believe I just heard it while writing this, circa 06:00 in ch. 2. Come on, even if the narrator's watch beeped during a reading of Shakespeare, are you really going to make that volunteer stop and re-do everything that falls short of perfection? In a production you paid for, go ahead and whine til the cows come home (unfortunate visual, sorry). But I proclaim it a no-no on Librovox. Who am I? Just librovox populi, and someone who thinks finding out about the scourge of land prawns is well worth enduring, wait for it, beep beep beep beep.

a beautiful story

I agree with many of these other reviews, I was rapt. Found myself looking at my dog at the end of the book & feeling like HBPiper must've had one & it prompted this story. Well written, intelligent and cute as hell! & also, wonderfully read. Thanks librivox & thanks Piper.

Why can't they be real?

Once again another fantastic story from H Beam Piper. The narrator took a couple of chapters to get used to but after that I found her tone well suited to the style of the book. The beep in the first two chapters should not be a put off for anyone! Would love the other Fuzzy stories to be available too. All in all great story that you should find thought provoking and very entertaining!

Exceptionally done..writing and reading

I've listened to this a number of times over the past few years. It makes you think about the way we treat our fellow sentient beings on this planet; maybe it's time to explore declaring them as nonhuman persons, and give them the rights they deserve.

Well done

I really enjoy all of Mark Nelson's readings of H. Beam Piper's works, so it was a little unusual to listen to a new reader with a different style. It was very satisfying, though. The story was fascinating and introduced unique and important questions about sapience.

Wonderful!

Mr. Piper's story is very timeless and engaging. I listen to this story at least once a year. I wish the other 2 books in the series about fuzzies were available with Librivox.

WOW! In my top 10 now! Just ignore any dated reference's ...

... or just replace them in your mind like I did and REJOICE! and have fun with your own little FUZZY!!!

Great Story, Great Reading

A cute story that is also quite thought provoking. The reader has a wonderful voice and kept a very nice pace throughout the book.
