Ray Bradbury Leviathan 99
Ray Bradbury
Leviathan '99 is a captivating radio drama by Ray Bradbury, first broadcast on May 3, 1968, on BBC Radio 3. This adaptation features technical direction by Harry Catlin and includes electronic music and sounds by Tristam Cary, Christopher Lee, and Robert Eddison.
The story tells the poetic and prophetic tale of a rocket ship and her crew, commanded by a blinded captain reminiscent of Herman Melville's Captain Ahab, as they hurtle through space to intercept the fearsome comet Leviathan, which resembles a white Moby Dick.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.

Moby Dick in Space

Ray Bradbury wrote the screenplay for “Moby Dick” directed by John Huston. “Leviathan99” is a comet and the captain of the Cetus VII is obsessed with it. If you know the original story, you’ll be able to follow this adaptation. My biggest complaint is that the music overwhelms the dialogue. This could be due to listening to this “radio play” on headphones instead of on a radio in a room.
