Pollyanna

Eleanor H. Porter
Pollyanna tells the story of Pollyanna Whittier, a young girl who goes to live with her wealthy Aunt Polly after her father's death. Pollyanna's philosophy of life centers around what she calls "The Glad Game": she always tries to find something to be glad about in every situation, and to always do without delay whatever she thinks is right. With this philosophy, and her own sunny personality, she brings so much gladness to her aunt's dispirited New England town that she transforms it into a pleasant, healthy place to live. Eventually, however, even Pollyanna's robust optimism is put to the test when she loses the use of her legs in an accident. (written by Mary Anderson) (6 hr 54 min)

When I was a child, the classic Disney movie "Pollyanna" was my favorite and I watched it more times than I can count, the book is even better, an absolute gem, has to be listened to for you to be able to get the sense of the wealth that Aunt Polly has and the opinions of the townspeople about the richest woman who owned half the town, getting "stuck" with her niece in her mansion and getting a new outlook on life that only this child could have done for her. This is by far my favorite book and always will be.
Disney Should Have Kept to the Book

I found this book an enjoyable read. The plot differences between the book and the movie are quite striking. The resolution of the conflict was much more interesting in the Book. I truly believe that the book would have made a better movie. The reader has a pleasant voice and read the story with energy. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a fun story.

This was my second time listening to Pollyanna. I've no idea how many times I've read it! The reading is a bit slow at first, but not so that it hinders the book! I love the book and the reminder to look for the joyful little things day to day! Definitely a book to read or listen to

Charming story! Though the heroine is a young girl, her appeal extends to boys and adults too. Mary Anderson's clear and engaging recording make the story a delight to listen to. A great choice for the whole family!

My 10 year old son's review: this is a better book for girls because the main character is a girl. But I learned that it is good to be happy and being happy helps other people.
Pleasant

A lovely, lightweight (in writing style, if not entirely all of the content) joyful little book to cheer and bolster all ages. Quite a decent reader - a little slow and methodical, but represented characters well.
