The Hound of the Baskervilles

(4,64 Sterne; 1088 Bewertungen)

What really killed Sir Charles Baskerville? Is his nephew, Sir Henry, in danger from the legendary family curse, a gigantic black hound? Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are on the case in this classic mystery, set on lonely Dartmoor in Devonshire. Neolithic ruins, a perilous quagmire, eerie sounds in the night, and (of course) fog all add to the fun, with an escaped convict thrown in for good measure. Great book and well read

(4 Sterne)

Thanks to librivox for the opportunity to listen to many books for free and big thanks to reader, she's a good in tone of reading, impressions of situation and clear American accent. Well done and keep up the good works

Great story enthusiastically read

(5 Sterne)

Among Conan Doyle's finest works. Narrator reads very well, briskly and clearly with her American accent. Narration actually grew on me as the story progressed. Unlike some Librivox readers she obviously knows and understands the book and intones appropriately.

a wonderful book and beautifuly read!!

i have come to love all the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. and more especially All the adventures of Sherlock Holmes

The best Holmes novel

(5 Sterne)

In my opinion the best Holmes novel. Beautifully read for librivox.

Surprisingly good

(4 Sterne)

Not my normal kind of book, but I decided to give it a try and I’m glad I did as I found it really interesting throughout. The narration is done with a southern American drawl, I think, and I have to say that I found it quite appealing! Well worth a listen, even if you are not sure whether it is your sort of thing!

The Hound of the Baskervilles

(5 Sterne)

My favorite Sherlock Holmes story read by one of my favorite librivox readers. She is gifted in her ability to keep each character distinct throughout—whether male or female—while consistently speaking in her very feminine voice. This she does in all the books she has read for librivox: this I know, because I have listened to them all multiple times.

Hounded By The Writing

(4 Sterne)

I have listened to or read 5-6 books Mr Doyle Always a joy with interest. Till now. The middle. from when Watson gets to Baskerville was, for me most boring writing. I wondered if someone else actually took. over for 3-4 chapters. Almost put the book down. As usual on e Holmes was back, the party started up again

Couldn’t think of a title

(3,5 Sterne)

Fairly well read Holmesian adventure. It is read with an American accent, which is rather jarring at the start, but you get used to it quickly. Honestly, I wish the reader did character voices, that could improve listening quality. Recommended for ages 12+
