Finn The Wolfhound

Gelesen von David Wales

Dawson published over thirty books, the one best remembered today probably being the animal adventure story Finn the Wolfhound (1908)…. His own dog Tynagh and her son Gareth, who was described as the largest and finest specimen of his breed to date, served as the models for Tara and Finn in Finn the Wolfhound (1908). This is probably Dawson’s best-remembered and certainly his most frequently reprinted work: Finn, a champion Irish Wolfhound, is taken from England to Australia where he undergoes a series of adventures, being exhibited as a wild animal in a circus and escaping to live in the outback before eventually finding his old master and saving his life. - Summary by Wikipedia and david wales (11 hr 50 min)

much good information regarding animal life and its interaction both with each other and man. sometimes difficult to hear as to the cruelty of life, but still so compelling a tale. Loved the reader!

Dogs Are Amazing

(3,5 Sterne)

Librivox has been adding lots of Dog/Adventure books to the library in the last couple of years. There's something of a formula to them: Good Dog is separated from Good Master, encounters Bad humans, has adventures/injuries/traumas, but remains Good Dog, then finds Good Master again (or New Good Master) and lives happily ever after. Finn, the wolfhound, fits this formula, but executes it perfectly. The author deftly weaves in the impoverished gentility of 'the Mistress of the Kennel' , the dog's experiences of his various homes and environments, and even brilliant sketches of the Bad Humans--but none of these are intrusive. It's a great dog story. PS: the narration is good, too. PPS: Did you know that a damper was Not just a device to adjust airflow to a fireplace or woodstove? Turns out it's also a type of bread baked in the ashes of the campfire!
