I liked this story but I confused as to why Trot and the Captain couldn't go home..? What about Trot's poor mom in California..?

A weird entry in the series but charming neither than less. I really enjoyed the voice and style this book was read. It was a lovely work and I could feel that the reader had fun reading it. That added to the experience
