The Vanishing Man

A young doctor, former student of the legal and medical expert Dr. John Thorndyke, finds himself almost accidentally drawn into a case in which a man has vanished. Perhaps he has died; perhaps not;but the issue is very important because the will that he has left behind is curiously -- annoyingly curiously -- worded. Fortunately, Dr. Thorndyke's rationality combined with his forensic skills, bring the case to a conclusion, while the young doctor meets the love of his life in the Egyptian rooms of the British Museum. excellent mystery & reader!

this is the second book i have read by this author and they are becoming a new favorite fast! the reader does an excellent job and has a clear recording. he does not read in voices, so at times when multiple characters are talking it is hard to note who says what, but overall a great reader! this is a mystery with a little romance on the side, very little. i am an avid mystery reader and sometimes i end up disappointed at stories i figure out to early or mysteries that have a ridiculous conclusion. but this was an excellent mystery! it was nearly half through before i had decided on what i figured happened, but i couldnt be sure - i could not nail the facts down because i was still trying to figure out the MOTIVE. ahhh motive. such a great final chapter :)

A classic whodunit, read with artistry

Mr. Freeman's story is a cross between Agatha Christie (the reader is challenged to put the clues together) and Arthur Conan-Doyle (the detective is a brilliant scientist whose specialized knowledge gives him insight into the case). There's also the kind of spiritual, sentimental love story that is impossible to write today. This audiobook had me on the edge of my seat from the beginning, due in no small part to Nicholas Clifford, who has the knack of speaking with the author's voice, no matter which author he is reading. His performance is seamless from beginning to end.

Not only is the book an awesome crime thriller, the volunteer did an excellent job. Like another reviewer commented, he got the emotions perfectly!
