"100%: The Story of a Patriot" dramatically recounts the adventures of a poor uneducated young man who lives by his wits and guile, as he becomes politicized during his involvement in the sometimes violent struggle between American “patriots” and “Reds”. The author wrote in the Appendix, which is not included in this recording: "Everything that has social significance is truth.... Practically all the characters in "100%" are real persons." This exciting, polemical novel was published in 1920. Sinclair (1878-1968) wrote nearly 100 novels, many based on industrial abuse. One of his best known, "The Jungle", was influential in initiating the regulation of food safety in the United States. He won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1943. (Lee Smalley) (8 hr 54 min)

Ah

(5 Sterne)

The last election made a point that I shouldn't watch television, or DVD'S, and YouTube. That was back in September of last year, and my time is filled with reading books, and listening to audio books. Then I send off emails to the Governor of the State I live in about how I want some marijuana. The Mayor of the Town I live in how the Police are Pig's, and Thug's. I am just not satisfied.

Well read realistic tale.

Thanks to the reader of this for reading this so well. Upton Sinclair is such an amazing writer. In parts of this I wish it was a movie so I could hide my eyes...so sad. I would love to listen to all of Upton Sinclair's works. What an amazing view he was able to convey.

Is this for real?

(5 Sterne)

Upton Sinclair is one of my favourite authors , having been introduced to him over forty years ago by Thomas Mc Bride. Is this for real? Or,more likely, is this a satirical tale? Regardless,it is an enchanting tale and the reader is flawless. I recommend this heartily.

Missing Something

(3 Sterne)

Reader is excellent 5 stars. I need a character that I can relate to or like, and this had none. It goes on and on from one bad experience to another. I finally gave up as it dragged me down into the political intrigues of a time gone by.

Great story & Read wonderfully

This wzs a great story. Not as good as other works - but definitely worth the listen!

(4,5 Sterne)

The plot with its espionage, violence, torture and political machinations has resonance to the present--how little things have changed!

Yet another engaging novel by Upton Sinclair. Well read. Thank-you.

The Horatio Alger Story of a Police Spy

(4 Sterne)

This is an energetic tale (though it drags in spots) tale of a thoroughgoing stinker, who drifts into working for cops looking to destroy socialists, pacifists, and Wobblies, and makes a success of the business. Spending time in this guy's selfish and empty head is sometimes a little hard to take -- but I found this to be a good commuting book.
