Lad: A Dog is a 1919 American novel written by Albert Payson Terhune and published by E. P. Dutton. Composed of twelve short stories first published in magazines, the novel is based on the life of Terhune's real-life rough collie, Lad. Born in 1902, the real-life Lad was an unregistered collie of unknown lineage originally owned by Terhune's father. Lad's death in 1918 was mourned by many of the story's fans, particularly children. The story was well read. It was interesting and obviously written by not just a dog lover, but a collie lover. It is worthy of hearing and can even be listened to by younger children without fear.

THIS IS DEFINITELY THE BEST BOOK!!!!!!!! I've listened to a LOT of books on LibriVox but this is the best so far. I was very anxious for Lad's life when he was reading about the dog fight. I think that I might have cried a little if Lad had died. Of all the dogs in the story Lad was, of course, the best
AND SOME PEOPLE STILL PREFER CATS?

No one does dog stories like APT. I read this one years ago, and the re-reading was just as good. The reader did a fine job.

Wonderful Dog Story

it's refreshing to hear a story of two so loving, good, and principled dog and his good people I'm weary of stories where the characters all have psychological problems and often shallow characters. Lad was a phenomenally good and strong dog in every way. The writing is rich and engaging. I very much enjoyed this book. l gave it a four only because you have to leave room for more complex great literature.
