Creatures of the Abyss
Gelesen von Mark Nelson
Murray Leinster
Orejas de ellos, "the things that listen", whispered the superstitious fishermen when the strange occurrences began off the Philippine coast. How else explain the sudden disappearance of a vessel beneath a mysterious curtain of foam? The writhings of thousands of maddened fish trapped in a coffin-like area of ocean? What monsters gorged at the bottom of the Luzon Deep and what were their plans? Radar expert Terry Holt and the crew of the Esperance had to devise a weapon against the horrifying creatures which threatened mankind with extinction. Here are terror, excitement, and the clutch of cold death as combined by a master hand in the field of science fiction. (Summary by from original book jacket) (5 hr 36 min)

Great introduction
Acegirl1
This was my introduction to both Murray Leinster (sorry if i misspelled his name!) and Mark Nelson. I have since listened to many of Mr Leinster's books as read by Mr Nelson. I'm a pizza delivery driver and listen to Librivox when I'm out on deliveries. Thanks to Librivox for offering such a wide variety of choices of great books to listen to and to Mr Nelson for bringing them to life so well.
great book . Mark Nelson did a great job in teading the story he gave so much feeling to it. Well done.

This is a very inventive story. Leinster loves to give us intelligent protagonists who are forced to put their knowledge to the test in order to solve new and often fantastic puzzles in order to survive or overcome foes. This story falls right in place and offers a series of mysteries that each require a rethinking of electrical and acoustic engineering. I also enjoyed the fact that Deirdre was every bit of Terry's mental match. A very well written, well paced and well thought out story. And if that isn't enough to convince you to give it a shot - it's read by Mark Nelson, easily the best reader I've listened to on Librivox.
Great story!

I was so into this story, that at then end of my work day, when I usually stop listening and pick up the next day, I listened to it on the ride home and finished at home. Murray Leinster is a great author and I love many of his books. Mark nelson is hands down the best narrator out there.

hmmm... Which came first, "Creatures of the Abyss," or John Wyndham's "The Kraken Wakes" (a.k.a. "Out of the Deeps")? I'm not for a moment suggesting either author plagiarized the other. Nevertheless the plot similarities between the two works are remarkable, which I'll chalk up to great minds thinking alike. Anyway, about "Creatures of the Abyss," I love a good mystery and I love a good science fiction yarn. This Leinster novelette provides both in a compact package. It's a real page turner, so to speak. As we have come to expect, Mark Nelson gives another outatanding reading. NOTE: An excellent radio play adaptation of "The Kraken Wakes," produced by the CBC, is available here at IA in the Old Time Radio Collection. https://archive.org/details/TheKrakenWakes_cbc
