This audio book is extremely easy to enjoy. Pat Obrien tells his amazing story with complete clarity and straight to the point narrative. What a fantastic human story! I also must commend the reader on an excellent reading! Thank you so much for having taken the time and effort to deliver such a perfect delivery! Highly recommended!

true story of life on the run

the reader is loud and clear but sometimes his voice lacks fluctuations and the reading comes off boring despite the information being interesting. the man who escaped to tell this true tale was not in prison long, only a few weeks. and it was not one of the worst places (the incidence with the "cooties" confirms that). so if you are expecting to hear of horrors experienced in prison or "hogans heros" type stuff you will be disappointed. the story is mostly about his trek to Holland and what happens after he gets back to safety. a good story and makes me realize what a hard time people would have doing that nowadays because nobody has gardens to snatch a bite to eat from!

Absolutely beautiful.. sadly Pat O’Brien died 3 years after his amazing escape. At the age of 30. Although his death was recorded as suicidal, it is impossible to believe that someone with such a survival will would take his own life. Indeed there are questions about this theory and theories about how or by whom he may have been killed. Fortunately he appears to have enjoyed his hard fought for freedom for a little while. What a first class man!

WOW GRIPPING TO THE END.

THAT WAS QUITE A STORY. WHAT A BRAVE MAN TO GO THROUGH WHAT HE DID. I REALLY ENJOYED EVERY MINUTE OF IT. I FELT HIS JIYS AND FEARS AND EVEN HELD MY BREATH IN PARTS WHERE HE WAS IN FEAR OF BEING DISCOVERED, ALSO A WONDERFUL READER, A PART WHICH...HAD TO BE READ BY A MAN. NO WOMAN COULD HAVE DONE IT JUSTICE I LOVE TRUE STORIES..

Impressive determination to survive

(5 Sterne)

O’Brien would not have survived without unusual stamina, ability to endure physical pain, willingness to kill if necessary, wit and cautious nature that warned him of danger, and his refusal to give in adverse circumstances. Combined with his extraordinary mental and physical strength—O’Brien always had luck on his side.

awesome story

This is a great adventure told in a down home kinda way, which is almost as interesting as the story itself. Seeing how Pat related to the war and the world was a gift. Who wouldn't want to hear an adventure like this from the man himself. We'll read too.

This was another Librivox audio book I have listened to. The story was intriguing and held my interest through the whole book. This is the second prisoner escape book I have listened to and the narrator did an excellent job. I definitely recommend this book.

Update re: O'Brien information

Thanks to a Royal Canadian Air Force webpage there is quite a bit of background information about the pilot and author of the book here.......... http://www.rcaf-arc.forces.gc.ca/en/cf-aerospace-warfare-centre/elibrary/journal/2015-vol4-iss1-06-outwitting-the-hun.page I hope this helps readers to understand the author in some depth
