LibriVox! What were you thinking?
Avid Listener
When a volunteer is so very bad at vocalizations, why let the recording ruin a much beloved book? Ric F. Please stop volunteering! I'm disgusted.
Great Story
Hospitable Georgian
Another great story from Baroness Orszy! This reading is by multiple readers. Most of the readers did fine. However, one male reader mispronounced every name in the chapters he read. This was a bit annoying. If he had listened to someone like Karen Savage read The Scarlet Pimpernel first, he would have known the correct pronunciations.
French Revolution- interesting back story
WhoBroughtChips
...Provided an interesting backstory on the unrest leading up to the French Revolution. Engaging and at times tense storyline. Multiple volunteer readers and reading styles frequently pulled me out of the story, but other than that, thoroughly enjoyable.
Difficult Narrators
Dangerous Journeymann
This is a terrific book, if one reads it themselves. Unfortunately, this version has combined some of the worst readers of the LibriVox volunteers. One is monotone, another mustn't actually comprehend what they're reading, as their inflections are wholly inappropriate for the thoughts the Author is trying to convey. Mangled pronunciation of the French language, but voicing Sir Percy as a high pitched tweeker was a bridge to far. I gave this 3 stars because it's such a wonderful story, if you can stomach the perfectly awful "volunteers" throughout.
Another great Scarlet Pimpernel book!

This was another interesting book of the Scarlet Pimpernel series. I am glad I gave it a chance as some reviews are nasty. I found the reader Ric, who I swear sounds like Wallace Shawn (who plays the short balding 'Genius' from the movie The Princess Bride) to be amusing. Only a few chapters but it had me chuckling throughout them when I couldn't help but keep visualizing him as the reader.
5 stars for the book itself, minus one for the reading
Becky
Some of the readers did well. Some were terrible. I nearly quit before getting out of the prologue because of the first reader. I'm glad i didnt though. It was an exciting adventure of the Scarlet Pimpernel and his friends!
Good story
Luna
another good one by Baroness Orczy. Kudos to 2 of the readers, Lynn and Lila. also, last 2 chapters by Tony done very well. Unfortunately I can't really compliment the others. Bad pronunciations, robotic, expressionless and boring. too bad for such a good book
good story true to form

The readers gave good performances at least and great ones at best. I prefer to listen to just one person read throughout the book, as it makes it easier to suspend by belief in reality. I would recommend this title.
