Great Expectations (version 2)
Gelesen von Peter John Keeble
Charles Dickens
Great Expectations is written in the first person and is virtually a fictional autobiography of “Pip” from his childhood, through often painful experiences, to adulthood. It charts his progress as he moves from the Kent marshes - his social status radically changed having gained an unknown benefactor - to busy commercial London. The book is richly populated with a variety of extraordinary characters many of whom, unbeknownst to them, have lives that are inextricably linked to the others. It is all there, love, hate, passion, humour, rejection, duplicity, betrayal, a whole gamut of emotions and human strengths and weaknesses . This is one of Dickens most fascinating, and disturbing novels. (Summary by Peter Keeble) (17 hr 53 min)

Tremendously helpful!

I am currently in high school, taking an online english course, and we have previously read short stories and poems. Delving into this longer, more in-depth work was difficult when having to read through all the text on a screen. Your eyes gloss over sections, get fatigued quicker, and it’s just generally unpleasant. Having the audiobook going in my ear while reading at the same time was extremely helpful and worked much better for my auditory self. Mr. Keeble has a wonderful voice and accent, and makes differentiations in the characters voices, which gives clarity and depth. He was my by far my favorite reader out of all the versions of Great Expectations. Thank you!
Favourite Audiobook!

The reader is wonderful, I love his voice and his accent. He gives the characters unique tones without it sounding like forced dramatics. The recording is somewhat muffled but you soon get used to it. This is one of my favourite books and my favourite LibriVox recording.
My favorite Dickens tale

This is as good, or maybe even better than watching the David Lean cinematic rendition. An excellent reading, one of my favorite Librivox recordings.
Beautifully read

Thank you Peter for a lovely listen. I love to hear English speakers for these English stories.

I love this guy's voice. It makes me feel like I'm listening to an old-time radio. :)
Great classic w/best reader
George Danar
This was a great classic with the best reader. A true pleasure,
I enjoyed the reader, he had a nice accent which was very appropriate to the story. He was quick, without losing clarity or understanding. The story had the standard Dickens ramblings and desire to use more words than necessary; but otherwise it was a very good story, and this would be the best one of his books I have read or listened to so far.
Enjoyed it

Though the reading (and recording) may not be among the most professional and flawless, I liked it a lot. The reader has a pleasant voice, his accent feels appropriate to the material (at least to me as a Dane), and I thought I could hear a true appreciation of the book in the way it was read.
