I enjoyed the story and the reading SO much! I found myself laughing at moments and choked up with tears in my eyes at others -- the outcome of a good story being really well told. :) Thank you Ruth for reading these Cleek stories the way you do. It's really amazing to me and I enjoy it so much as a listener. If you enjoy mysteries or detective fiction, I highly recommend the Cleek stories. Start with 40 faces.

This is a good collection of detective cases handled by Hamilton Cleek , for Scotland Yard. I really enjoy this series and the narration of Ruth Golding is excellent. I wasn't expecting the ending ,but really liked it also. Great listening as Ruth takes this work from a 4 star to a 5 star experience for me. Thanks Ruth & Librivox , for so much enjoyment as always.

A great reading of a good book. Ruth Golding gives this the same care that she gives to her famous Sherlock Holmes recordings.

Not only is the character of Hamilton Cleek witty and intelligent, but every character in each case is well constructed. I have been surprised at nearly every turn in each case; I've been surprised most of all by the fact I'd never heard of this character or the author, which seems such a shame. These books should be better known by the general public. Additionally, as I'm sure I've mentioned in other reviews, Ruth Golding is easily one of the best Readers on Librivox. She fleshes out each character so adeptly, with her skillful use of her voice that I swear I can see them in front of me, acting out each scene. Thanks again to Librivox and Ruth Golding for bringing this great piece of literature to the people.

Ruth Golding makes the Sherlock Holmesesque stories in this book an “audio page-turner.” As with Doyle’s tales, these are full of unexpected twists and turns, interesting characters and satisfying conclusions.
