This complex and interesting mystery story keeps you in suspense all the way through. I was so engrossed in the book that I listened to it start to finish in less than 24 hours (so basically every free minute I had, I was listening)! You get invested in the characters and simplifies with their grief, pain, shame, etc., all the while trying to figure out who the real criminal is. It's hard to end a book this good well, but I think AKG does a fine job here, as evidenced by the last word of the book. Also, there are multiple narrators, but about halfway through the book it switches to a single narrator who is very good. All of the narrators for this book did a good job, but I particularly enjoyed Mike Pelton's reading. I would definitely recommend reading this book!
Excellent story! Well read!

A somewhat wordier book that I tend to prefer, but no words felt excessive. A well told mystery, well developed characters, surprises and twists throughout, with a shocking ending. All of the readers for this piece did and excellent job! Happily, not one had me wishing for the next, and each one could have held my attention for the entire book. I hesitate to listen to those read by “LibriVox volunteers”, because I’ve had bad experiences with inconsistencies in reading styles throwing me off, or some I just could not bear, as much as I do appreciate the volunteers, as a rule. This book was filled with readers I may search for more readings from! Thanks!

This is another sizzling story with the final curves in the story being thrown in the last pages, but there are plenty of surprises before the end comes. I became so engrossed in the story that I switched to Gutenberg to read it online because I am a fast reader and no matter how good the oral version is it does go much more peaceable in it's progression. :)
Good mystery in genuine AKG style

Long winded and overly sentimental as most novels of the time were, but has a good plot with lots of twists and turns and an unexpected ending. Great readers one and all!

Engaging from the start. Full of suspense with a surprising outcome. Many thanks to The selection of readers, who all did a wonderful job in the telling of this tale as well.

A complex, tragic tragedy. I find it to be one of the best Anna Katherine Greene novels I have read. The only complaint I have involves a few chapters having audio problems.
