White Fang (Version 2)
Gelesen von Mark F. Smith
Jack London
When White Fang is birthed in a cave to a wolf sire and a wolf/dog halfbreed dam, he is heir to two traditions. At first he is content to explore and learn laws of the Wild. But then his mother is caught and held by old memories of a past relationship with Man, and White Fang follows her into service with the Indians. Life among sled dogs is hardly less cruel and dangerous than living in the Wild, but brutality notches upward when his drunken master sells him to a nasty, twisted hanger-on at a riverside town of white men. He is stripped of everything soft and gentle when forced to fight to the death for a crowd of bettors.
Taming this savage spirit and reclaiming the nobility within looks impossible. Fortunately, and heart-warmingly, a man arrives in White Fang's life to try.
"White Fang" is often called the mirror image of Jack London's acclaimed "The Call of the Wild" in which a dog follows the reverse arc from tame to free. (summary by Mark) (7 hr 43 min)

This book is much more complex than The Call if the Wild. It delves with more depth into the themes that were just touched upon in the earlier book. At times, it was a bit slow, but patience is rewarded in the end. Mark Smith did a stellar job of reading this book, just as he did with The Call of the Wild. He is a great reader and his pace and clearness of voice are perfect.

I can't say it's more or less of anything than the call of the wild. a jack london book of many stories in one. definitely worth the listen. good tempo and a vivid picture of events. I most enjoyed the first third while the story was in the wilderness before the mad owner appeared. I couldn't listen to his part in the story because it was breaking my heart. thanks to Mark Smith for the excellent reading. you sure know your trade. some people complained about the readers in version one. pity they didn't listen to version 2. thank you Jack london.

This would have to be my fave book. I laugh, cry and really 'experience' everything with sweet white fang. Anyone that has and loves a dog should read this...and every child should have it read to them...possibly more of them will grow up kind to animals rather than cruel or neglectful. Narrator was excellent and I will be keeping an eye out for him again.
Mark Smith is a fantastic narrator
