The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
Gelesen von Chip
Washington Irving
The quiet Dutch community of Sleepy Hollow lay in the Adirondack mountains on the western shore of the mighty Hudson River in America’s colonial period. The solitude of the woods was breathtaking, and not even a schoolmaster was immune from the eerie miasma which everyone knew permeated the dense forest. Written in 1820, Washington Irving’s The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow has become a classic of American literature, and has been retold in many different ways. Here is the original, from Irving’s own hand. I have listened to hours of recorded books, many of them librivox recordings and this is one of the very best I have heard. Well read and great emotion made it very easy to listen to. Absolutely wonderful!

So-So Story Wonderfully Read

The reader really knows his business. Flawless narration, very expressive. I don't like endless descriptions of dells and flowers and brooks. Unless description is closely tied to action, philosophical observation, or psychological insight, I fail to appreciate the tale, and it wearies me. Many of Irving's descriptions seem to have no other purpose than to pretty up his paper. The horse chase is exciting, though. I enjoyed that.
Well read, good sound quality

Mr. Chip did a wonderful job narrating the story. Engaging enough for me to pay attention to the story but not too distracting that I was still able to do menial tasks (even read another book). I like listening to stories as I go about my day and I'm happy to cross off another book in my endless to-read list.
Good to read, but better to read to by Chip

Such a classic story, I believe everyone should know this story in particular. Such a leisurely Grove, Sleepy Hollow is almost perfect for all who class city life as too busy, & country life just a little bit too easy. But to have it all read by Chip turns this classic into a masterpiece.
A brilliant reading of an American classic

Wonderfully read and well worth the listen. The story's description, as provided by the author, is a bit off the mark. The story takes place on the eastern shore of the river in the lower Hudson Vally, in present day Tarrytown, a long way south of the Adirondack's (and the more nearby Catskill mountains).
Beautiful and Nostalgic

I loved this story since I was little, and Chip did a wonderful job bringing the tale to life. I actually stopped what I was doing to solely listen towards the end - it's that enthralling. Thank you Mr. Chip for your time and effort, and thank you Librivox for making this story available.
Flawless!

A divine job. I cried at the end. It’s a tradition with me to listen to this every October, so I’ve heard a couple of first-rate narrators and “Chip from Tampa” holds his own. A great gift to the public.
