New Texas: its citizens figure that name about says it all. The Solar League ambassador to the Lone Star Planet has the unenviable task of convincing New Texans that a s'Srauff attack is imminent, and dangerous. Unfortunately it's common knowledge that the s'Srauff are evolved from canine ancestors—and not a Texan alive is about to be scared of a talking dog! But unless he can get them to act, and fast, there won't be a Texan alive, scared or otherwise!

Thoroughly enjoyable!

I recently discovered H Beam Piper through his novel Space Viking and have become an enthusiastic fan of his work. While not quite as remarkable as the above work, this story is a lot of fun and contains an interesting exploration into the common philosophy in the United States that the people of a Nation should be armed to protect themselves against abuses of power by government officials. It is definitely worth a listen. As always, the reading (perhaps it should be called a performance) by Mark Nelson is second to none.

Awesome Story!

The new ambassador of Lone Star planet needs to learn who killed his predecessor and why. He also needs to find a way to bring this planet into the federation. How to accomplish these things on a planet where if a person acts improperly, they can be shot and the murderer is exonerated? Interesting storyline, kept me involved and listening up to the end. Reader was also very good.

I Find something new each Listen!I Find something new each Listen! I started reading SF in the mid 1950's and still read and now also listen. l have mixed old and new SF ever since. This novel was older even then and the new ones I read then are 60+ years older now. I read and reread new and old still. The new for the latest SF ideas with special interest on Natural and Man Made Genetic Evolution of Humanity. The best older ones for story. I never compare the science of the new with the science of the old AND therefore ENJOY BOTH!!! PS:  My Vocation is the Physical Science where the disciplines of Math, Physics, Chemistry and  Biology all OVERLAP = Medicine with a focus on the Molecular Biology of Generics with it's Probable and Possible Results. My Advocation's are the Arts of SF especially Speculative SF,  all the General Knowledge I can acquire and Music especially it's attempted but never obtained Mastery.

Texas (Joke review, very good)

When I read the title I was all: “Hahahaha imagine if it’s Texas that would be funny,” and then I was like: “Oh, I am an idiot.” You’d think the Texans would just be able to use the shotguns they keep around the house but no I guess. Real Texans would carry shotguns that could kill anything. Real Texans wouldn’t be scared of Clifford the Big Red Dog evil destructive version. As a Texan I find this very anti-Texan, bad book! 0/10 stars AHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

very aptly named and fun to listen to.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the excellent job Mr. Nelson's presentation not only made this book very understandable but also very humorous as intended by the author. however, Not only was this book humorous, it also carried with the humor some real insight into government, politics and justice. the author did a good job at presenting the Viewpoint that government should exist to serve the People and should be answerable to the people.

How I wish we could implement their odd law system in our current excuse for a two party political system we have in our attempts at a practicing democratic “equal vote of the people” !!! Multi-Continent Corporations are NOT a people nor are they a sole and only a citizen of any single country, they are the enemies and enslavers of every person, citizen, or inhabitant of all countries !!!

Hi-tech Texans, yeehaw!

I love Pipers variations on pollitics in the worlds he creates, on The Lone Star Planet you can kill pollitical representatives if you feel that they have not represented the people's intrests....What a idea, though this does present some problems, hence the plot of the story. This book is a little like a John Grisham novel but with intergalactic intricacies and more action, I recommend it.

one of my top five favorite sci-fi stories.
