The problem with writing an American Classic like "Little Women" is that your readers will have unreasonable expectations. LM Alcott wrote for her living, and she had no appetite for starving in an attic, so she sold what she wrote and moved forward. There's nothing wrong with these stories, they're just not her best. 1: A Modern Cinderella suffers from an excess of sugary metaphor, poetical descriptions, and practically perfect people. 2: Aunt Kipp; thank goodness for her astringent personality after the first story! 3, 4: Country folk vs city folk... 5: My Red Cap, I think the most interesting story. A Civil War nurse and a veteran have several encounters over the years. The plot and characters are well developed. 6: Nellie's Hospital is the only children's story in this collection. A little girl hopes to be a 'Sanitary Commission' nurse when she grows up, and practices with the local bugs, birds and mice. A nice collection of Louisa May Alcott stories, they will make you laugh and cry! My favorites are Kitty's Class Day and Aunt Kipp. Also, Carolyn does an awesome job reading A Country Christmas, especially in part 2.
