Edward wakes up on board a ship crossing the Atlantic, on his return from the Great War – however, he finds that his memory of who he is and where he comes from is only fragmentary.
The book follows his fascinating journey back to health and his growing realisation about what effect the War and its aftermath has had on him and also on the people he meets - as well as his family.

Such a Good Story

(5 Sterne)

I’ve now read every Basil King book on here and all of them read by Simon Evers. Now I’m sad because The Thread of Flame is over. It’s been one of the best reading, listening and enjoyable experiences I’ve had on LibriVox. Simon Evers is one of the best narrators out there as he breathes life into every book he reads. Basil King is now one of my favorite authors. Great story writing with some of the most memorable characters. Thank you LibriVox and thank you Mr. Evers. I’m thoroughly delighted. 08.03.19

Now I’ve Read it Twice

Awesome how many good but forgotten writers there are. And to think this Basil King was a minister who only wrote after his retirement, and who, in this book, proposes the way to God is to pursue what you most want in life! That’s the opposite of what I heard. Bill’s re entry into society presents very harsh scenes that are very funny for the reader, and his sojourn among working people when he’s lost his memory are great and memorable. All he realizes is that he knows he himself never was this poor in the past! May I just say that without the reading of the great SimonEvers, such a long and ‘different’ book would not have been accessible to me.

exiting story with many turns until the protagonist finds out who he was, who he is and where the thread of flame finally leads him. Perfectly brought to life by the amazing Simon Evers.

excellent story

I have listened to all of Basil King’s books, all good, but in my opinion this is his best one. The narrator Mr. Simon Evers is the best. Thank you, JK

interesting and Thoughtful

I am really enjoying this author, a new discovery for me. This is a complex tale with much to ponder and think on. Thanks to the excellent reading!

I hardly need to say it because it's always true, but, another moving story by BK, perfectly read by SE.

great reader

the book is mediocre with a socialist bend but Simon Evers is a dynamite reader!
