Carpenters and craft, friendship and rivalry: Wally is building a mansion for a dot-com multimillionaire in the Silicon Valley of California. As the dot-com's stock keeps rising, the size of the house - and the owner's ego - keep growing. Wally and his colorful crew may be into something that's over their heads. When little guys work for bigshots, who gets nailed?

From bungling to burglary, from demolishing concrete to racing beltsanders, from love of tools to falling in love, everyone will encounter Wally's Laws of Construction - or are they Laws of Life? Each house, it seems, is a miracle.

Joe Cottonwood is a contractor in the Silicon Valley of California where he has been building houses - and fixing homes - for over 30 years. He is the author of FAMOUS POTATOES and other novels.

A charming nod to the "glass half-full" sentiment on life gained through age and experience. Negotiating the required insanities while hoping to figure out what's important. Learning to suffer the knocks and get back up, through much unwanted repetition and practice. Learning to be actually present when you'd much rather not. Reaching out for and/or offering a hand as needed along the way. Recognizing you have to hunker down into defcon 1 when necessary. (__it happens.) A couple of sage philosophies quoted within... SANITY IS OVERRATED and DECIDE WHEN TO GET SOMETHING DONE INSTEAD OF GETTING IT DONE PERFECTLY. (all afforded without the sugar toothache) High praise from a normally "horror only" fan. 😉

Mr Cottonwood, I try not to leave comments here since I'm the one managing them and I try to stay impartial, but I can't keep silent anymore. ;) I thoroughly enjoyed all of your books. They are something special and your reading of them makes them even more special. Clear ...

Hi Lucie. I remember your name, nice to hear from you. Merci beaucoup for your nice words. As an experiment I put my most recent audiobook on Audible.com. It's called 99 Jobs: Blood, Sweat, and Houses. Sadly, Audible doesn't provide the sense of community or the lively feedback one gets ...

Glad to hear you're enjoying the story, Mathew. In fact I'm very glad to know it's still out there and somebody is still listening. The singer is Will Fourt (there's an extra "u" in the name). He's got a couple of CDs on CDBaby but none with the theme song ...

I'm new to podcasts and was lucky enough to come across your Clear Heart book. Really enjoying it and already at chapter 45 after 2 weeks of listening when time permits. Thanks and best wishes to you.

I think you'd be the second author offering poetry. I'm not a fan of it myself but, knowing your style, I bet it would be interesting. :)
