Charles Cunningham, a wealthy real estate developer, dies unexpectedly and finds himself in Purgatory, the place between heaven and hell. Though depressed about his early death, he befriends two other souls doing time there -- the writer Edgar Allan Poe and a music-loving deadbeat named Billy. Upon receiving a letter from God telling him he must learn some unnamed lessons before he can go to heaven, he convinces Poe to join him in the portal back to earth. They hope to make up for their past mistakes, but they arrive on earth in the year 2049, 42 years after Charles' death. Traveling from mid-21st century New York City to Las Vegas, Charles seeks out the daughter he neglected in life, though she is now in her eighties. However, an unfriendly soul from Purgatory follows them to earth. This soul, an employee with whom Charles had an affair and summarily fired, is determined to keep him from winning passage to heaven. She teams up with Charles' grandson, a debt-ridden gambling addict who has a talent for messing things up. Together, they hatch a deadly scheme to foil Charles' plan to get to heaven and net the grandson badly-needed money. Charles learns of their plans and enlists his friends to help stop them. Will they succeed?

Personally, I felt the music was a bit much. But the book was really awesome. It was an original idea. I've never heard anything even close. And I feel as if it had some deep lessons weaved into it. It was sad in a lot of spots, but it also had good humor. I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did. I would recommend listening to this one. It's a hidden little gem

This was a great book and good fun. Having someone meet the legend Edgar Allen Poe in purgatory was a great idea! Yes there are some bits with music behind the narration. But it's done for a reason and whoever cant see that are just idiots! I thought a couple of times I was going to wet myself. 'Thank goodness i didn't yield to temptation' one more thing Mr dodge. What is wrong with a song like 'can't fight this feeling anymore?!' 😂😂
The most original novel I have ever listened to.

I used to believe the phrase that " there is nothing new under the sun" but, no longer. This is a great novel, originality made real. It's also extremely entertaining and enjoyable. Well narrated, with good characters and a well worked plot. My congratulations and genuine gratitude to the author.

Purgatory was a very interesting read and this book had amused by each characters part, but I was sadden for the young lady that had to remain in purgatory, only if she could forgave when she was presented with the facts of it all. Hope you come out with another just like this one. Thanks

I've never heard such a odd but interesting premise. I will definitely look for more books by Tim and I had no problem with the acoustic music played in this audio book at all. Give it's a listen and I think you will be happy you did.
