Good Morgan, anybody, here's evening...

This is Henry Morgan in the free-wheeling (absurdist ad-lib business between snatches of records) quarter hour format that made him a NYC radio cult hero before the war. These particular shows also feature some of his infamous ads for Adler Elevator Shoes ("Now you can be taller than she is."). It makes for great listening. It's really interesting to compare these shows to the more standard comedy-variety shows Morgan did at the other end of the 40s: http://www.archive.org/details/TheHenryMorganShowPartOne http://www.archive.org/details/TheHenryMorganShowPartTwo http://www.archive.org/details/TheHenryMorganShowPartThree
Morgan in the Raw
Dodsworth the Cat
Here's the original Henry Morgan, who parlayed these 15-minute monologues into a network radio variety show after the war. Morgan's approach, observations and humour in these Mutual broadcasts is certainly unique. The transcribed spots are unintentionally hilarious.
