A Treat

(4 Sterne)

The book was an interesting picture of life on the frontier: Ohio and Indiana in the 1830s or so. There were fascinating stories about traveling on the Erie-Ohio Canal, taking a steamship on Lake Erie, and a keelboat on a smaller river. Just as interesting, but less fun, were the annual bouts of the "ague" (probably malaria) that the pioneers had to deal with every summer.

Story:Very enjoyable. Teaching, in a pleasurable way, the historical aspects of living in a newly inhabited area. Reader: Exceptional. Love the varying tones and voices for each character. Superb!

Rachel’s reading was great; thank you for that. The book itself was an interesting glimpse of history. The self righteousness of the characters was a bit tiresome though.

interesting and comforting

An interesting glimpse into the wilderness of Indiana in the early 1800s, and the great faith of the family. A worthy read.
