A Fleet In Being; Notes Of Two Trips With The Channel Squadron
Rudyard Kipling
Read by David Wales
A Fleet In Being is a collection of essays by Rudyard Kipling that delves into the complexities of naval power and its implications for British security at the turn of the 20th century. Written in response to the growing threat posed by Germany's naval ambitions, Kipling's work offers a keen analysis of the political and military landscape of his time.
Through a blend of sharp wit and insightful commentary, Kipling examines the British Royal Navy's role in maintaining national strength and the challenges it faces from emerging powers. His sardonic humor shines through as he reflects on the societal implications of military readiness and the often-overlooked perspectives of those in the lower ranks.
This collection not only provides a historical perspective on naval strategy but also invites readers to consider the broader themes of duty, power, and the human experience in times of conflict. Kipling's unique voice and engaging style make A Fleet In Being a thought-provoking listen for anyone interested in military history and the intricacies of national defense.

Well read. Most interesting racconte of sea life aboard coal powered war ships by still current roles (mostly) and a critical and enjoyable look at all the commissioned and non commissioned officers and their staff in the eyes of an outsider. Thanks!
