Ned Franks, or The Christian's Panoply

(4.7 stars; 17 reviews)

Ned Franks, a one-armed Christian sailor, returns to his sister's home after several years away at sea. She and her son are not Christians, and are cold toward him, viewing him as a hindrance and expense. By his upright, kind behavior and willingness to work, he soon begins supporting himself and becomes well-liked in the community, especially by the children. Various other characters face and overcome challenges, including a servant girl who breaks a habit of dishonesty and a Jew who is faced with the reality that Jesus Christ is the Messiah. The design of this story is unique, as each chapter demonstrates a new fruit of the Spirit as described in Galatians 5:22-23. Excellent for children and adults of all ages. - Summary by Alayna May (7 hr 8 min)

Unexpected Pleasure

(4 stars)

I wasn’t sure about this book at first. It seemed too preachy and preachiness in fiction is one of my pet hates. But I changed my attitude when I realised that the author’s purpose was to give a sermon in story style. So I settled in to listen and found that not only did I learn from her simple storytelling, but I became engaged with the story and characters as well. Btw, the book’s theme isn’t the fruit of the Spirit, but the spiritual armour found in Ephesians.

Excellent reading. Thankyou. Thoroughly enjoyed the way the armour of God is shown to be effective in everyday circumstances. A lovely example of how to don one's armour every day.

Motivational

This is a wonderful, well written story. Additionally, the reader does a terrific job! The only criticism I have is that the author wraps it up too quickly.
