The Lives of the Queens of England is a multi-volumed work attributed to Agnes Strickland, though it was mostly researched and written by her sister Elisabeth. These volumes give biographies of the queens of England from the Norman Conquest in 1066. Although by today's standards, it is not seen as a very scholarly work, the Stricklands used many sources that had not been used before.

Feel free to buy a recorded version of this work that meets your expectations. Oh, wait - you can't, because it's not a commercially viable work. Then, how about recording it with perfect pronunciation and emphasis yourself? Those who demand perfection should be careful, or they'll get only perfection - and no free audiobooks of more obscure works. And yes, I've listened to this and all the other volumes in this series. The information is educational, insightful - gives one a good picture of many of these queens that we never hear about elsewhere. Much thanks to Ann for sticking to this series, making it available for us!

It's sad when people who like to read can't read aloud correctly. This reader doesn't seem to know that "royalty" and "country" are stressed before the last syllable, and other things. Also, too many of my fellow Americans don't learn how to pronounce foreign words correctly. It's rwa, not roy, (French roi) and so on. People recording for Librivox just don't get how they ruin a reading by not knowing what they're doing.

The content of the series is very interesting, especially how it exposes all the evidence of the queens' character and intentions. Through the narrative, they become real and believable persons to the reader (or listener). Unfortunately the audio, although read clearly, is less than ideal in the reader's style and cadence. Even so, I'm thankful for her tremendous dedication to the work.
