Louise de la Valliere
Alexandre Dumas
Read by LibriVox Volunteers
Set against the backdrop of 17th-century France, Louise de la Vallière continues the saga of the legendary Musketeers, weaving a tale of love, loyalty, and political intrigue. As the story unfolds, the lives of Athos, Porthos, Aramis, and D'Artagnan intertwine with the fate of Louise, a young woman caught in the tumult of royal court life.
This third volume of The Vicomte of Bragelonne delves into the complexities of romance and ambition, exploring how personal desires clash with the demands of duty. Dumas masterfully captures the essence of a time when honor and betrayal walked hand in hand, and the stakes were as high as the crowns worn by kings.
With its rich historical context and vibrant characters, Louise de la Vallière offers listeners a captivating glimpse into a world where the bonds of friendship are tested and the heart's yearnings can lead to both glory and despair.

90% of the reading was done by volunteers without a clue as to French pronunciation. Therefore, some characters had 4 or 5 names depending on which letters were pronounced. One reader has a monotone voice and since she did most chapters, the book was less interesting than all the previous ones

I usually abstain from reviews but I needed to speak on this reading. while all the readers did their best, the primary reader of the work needs to have their work redone. They read terribly mechanically, as if they are reading the words by finger. as a result much of their work is a drone and difficult to follow. While there book is a d'Artagnan Romance, it mostly centers in Louis XIV's romance with the title change, De la Valliere. As a result 2/3rds of the book is court intrigue and petty jealously. Wrapped up in a nice package with star-crossed love and a suspenseful end.
good, but not excelent

The majority of the french names and titles in this book are horribly mispronounced
Not the best of his work.

This is definitely not the best of Dumas' work, and you can tell a great deal of it has been elaborated for no reason. The hook and desire to stay with it is just not there. Some of these readers made me so frustrated; I just had to get through some of them. The lack of intonation of the "main" reader (she has several more chapters than any of the others) drove me bonkers. May have been more enjoyable with decent reading.
Pretty Decent!

It was pretty good overall. Of course there was some bad accents and a few times where it was hard to understand the reader. That's pretty much par for most of the free books. Great book though and I'm glad they finally finished it! It was annoying that they did the whole series and left out a book in the middle!!! Love Alexandre Dumas!!!!
good story, bad reading
a listener of good books
this part of the story is much better than the previous (10 yrs later) but I agree with most other reviewers in that the reading is bad. most of it sounds like a robot ( I won't mention name but you'll easily discover who) and was painful to my head to listen to.
ONE OF THE FOUR DISGRACES THE FELLOWSHIP
AVID READER
Richelieu is evil; Mazarin is duplicitous and avaricious; Dumas is telling us of the evils perpetrated by the nobility of the church. Aramis is the worst since he has no reason for his treachery except an ego far beyond his capacity. A good continuation of the saga.
