Gambler's World & The Yillian Way
Keith Laumer
Read by Phil Chenevert
Here are two stores starring the always unconventional Terrestrial Diplomat, Retief. As a diplomat, Retief does not always follow procedure. Well the truth is that he almost never follows procedure but somehow his wit and strength manage to salvage most situations from the bumbling of the other diplomats. His sardonic approach to inter galactic negotiations in these two stories is a delight to hear. (1 hr 35 min)

BEST...STORY...EVER

I liked Gambler's World, but every time I need a good laugh, I play The Yillian Way. It is neatly written, with a second grade ambassador as the hero of the story, and the antagonist, the 'ambassador extraordinaire' of Earth. I won't say more because it would give away the fun! Oh, and BTW, I have listened to Yillian Way more times than I can recall. Yes, it's that good. Thanks to Phil for his excellent reading and selection of this story.
Gambler's World, etc, etc....

The subtle yet cutting of all pseudo politics is hilarious. The stories written, published as the country was starting on explosive change. Gone we're the safe 50's. Here now was a generation saying FU to the way things were. The war, liars abound in politics, women power & social unrest in inner cities. The fuse was lit. Make Love, Not War.....
Retief!

Early Retief stories; something about halfway between James Bond and Maxwell Smart, both of which were contemporaneous. Light stuff; amusing; science fiction candy. Worth a listen.
