I really enjoy Leinster's Calhoun and Mergatroyd stories. Like most Leinster protagonists Calhoun is a man of science who is if forced to think on his feet to come up with solutions to all sorts of odd situations (typically some sort of health crisis since he is a med ship man). Pariah Planet reads like a sci-fi retelling of the Dr. Seuss classic "The Sneetches." Prejudices are driving the medical and political situations. The story is short and tight, yet still dynamic and interesting. The author knows how to keep the story focused and moving forward. And the lovable Mergatroid character is genius. The reader is the incomparable Mark Nelson. His voicing of the characters and reading of the text is simply the best on Librivox.

look at "This world is taboo"
