Emma (version 7 Dramatic Reading)

Emma is a novel about youthful hubris and the perils of misconstrued romance....As in her other novels, Austen explores the concerns and difficulties of genteel women living in Georgian-Regency England; she also creates a lively comedy of manners among her characters. Before she began the novel, Austen wrote, "I am going to take a heroine whom no one but myself will much like." In the very first sentence she introduces the title character as "Emma Woodhouse, handsome, clever, and rich." Emma, however, is also rather spoiled, headstrong, and self-satisfied; she greatly overestimates her own matchmaking abilities; she is blind to the dangers of meddling in other people's lives, and her imagination and perceptions often lead her astray. I enjoyed listening to this book although it got kinda long! The only thing I didn't like was that I couldn't understand Harriet's voice. Seriously muffled and a weird accent or what??

Great!

(4.5 stars)

When I physically read the book I was quite disinterested. But these voices and the wat they put it together made this very enjoyable. Harriet Smith's voice was a bit muffled, but still understandable. I definitely recommend this audio book.

Enjoyed this dramatic reading of Emma. 3 volumes! That was a labor of love😄

very much like the movie Clueless

the readers do a fine job. jane is a bit hard to understand, so i always had to listen to her parts twice - but she doesnt speak much. this story was clearly the inspiration for the movie Clueless. not many men would enjoy this story, but it is highly recommended for ladies. you will laugh at emma as she thinks things are going one way, and yet nothing works out as she thinks it will. the ending is obvious from the start, but the author is great at telling her story.

Another great book read by many voice actors! Amanda Friday is outstanding as Emma, and any leading lady; I have loved every part she has read. A couple critiques for this book: 1. I would like to see the actors better suited to their roles. It’s odd when a young man’s part is read by a voice that sounds like a much older man and vice versa. Also, 2. the actress for Harriet Smith is talented, and I did enjoy her reading, but her audio recording is terrible and should be re-recorded.

Romance!!

(5 stars)

Probably my favorite Jane Austen book so far. I listened to Pride and Prejudice, and Sense and Sensibility, but they never really stood out to me. this one had so much tension, enemies to lovers, romance, and so much female independence!! I loved it, and it was very refreshing to listen to. This reading was amazing too, I loved Mr. Knightley's accent haha.

Really enjoyed listening to the reading of this book. Especially enjoyed the voices of Mr. Knightly and Emma. Harriet Smith’s voice was a little muffled but I could understand. Unfortunately I have to say the one thing I didn’t like at all was Jane Fairfax’s voice. It sounds terrible and quite often I could not understand what she was saying.
