Reviews
Lovely!
Unknown
Woolf’s second novel. Today it could be called a romantic comedy. A beautifully woven plot. Thoroughly enjoyable. Almost 50 years ago I studied Woolf in graduate school, and yet I had never even heard of this novel. Probably because it is not very “Woolfian”! Wonderful imagery and a cast of unconventional characters. You will love this book even if you generally don’t like Woolf. Beautifully read, though the reader has an interesting characteristic in her speech- she treats interior t’s in words a bit like a Cockney would- she does not pronounce them. It was unusual to hear an American with clipped “t’s” in her speech. Minor thing, though. I just loved the book!
Decent book, good recording

An early Woolf novel, not experimental like many of her other works. The book is slow-moving but engaging. This recording is done in an appropriately cool, even female voice. I found the reading a little stiff at times but always clear. Good recording quality.

Night and Day is an earlier of her novels and more traditional in terms of plot. Its complex in its analysis of the relationships among 3 women and 2 men. An Edwardian struggle between independence and marriage, class and freedom. It's long with little action outside of the minds of characters. Sometimes maddening indecision of characters is very true to life. I loved it overall and feel I know these people now.
A LibriVox Listener
A strange and honest adventure into the topic of thought and conversation. Virginia Woolf wrote beautiful, broken, honest conversations of the time period. These strangenesses still apply to our existence today and it was a delight to listen to and think over long after I had done.
nursenancy
This book is so evasive or always trying to explain weird thinking. I just hate to quit listening to something I’ve started and so I didn’t quit. Kept wondering why I didn’t.....As far as the reader she gets 5 stars!!
As Jim points out...

... the narrator drops the interior t’s. It’s an annoying habit that young women recently picked up here in America. For example “button” is pronounced "but-on”. It’s, quite frankly, juvenile and ruins an otherwise flawless narration.

Beautifully written with sublime language and insights into inner dialogue. I felt at times that the behaviour of the characters is not consistent with their personalities or the historical period but still probable.

Beautifully written and eloquently read. I expected this book would seem very long but it did not!! I didn't want it to end, it was so interesting.
