The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is the original title of a novel written by the Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson that was first published in 1886. It is about a London lawyer named Gabriel John Utterson who investigates strange occurrences between his old friend, Dr Henry Jekyll and the misanthropic Edward Hyde. The novella's impact is such that it has become a part of the language, with the phrase "Jekyll and Hyde" coming to mean a person who is vastly different in moral character from one situation to the next. Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde was an immediate success and is one of Stevenson's best-selling works. This actually helped while I was studying this for my GCSE text at school. Also, the way that it is read- the different expressions for characters and the natural pauses of speech- helped to make this book even more effective and easier to understand! I think I might listen to it again...

Mr. Bob Neufeld once again delivers a wonderful ability to read and maintain the suspense of this classic. I'm looking forward to hear more classics read by him. He brings to life the characters on the page and the story presented by wonderful writers.

A Grimoire Classic!

I've heard about this novella for years, but Librivox allowed me to finally get my hands... or ears on it. My local library, shamefully does not have it. As always, Stevenson shows himself to be a fantastic storyteller and his childhood spent absorbing tall tales from servants, is readily evident. Though the gothic romance is set in genteel fixture, its story beats are more like a ghost story or dark folk-tale. It is probably this quality which has preserved it in public memory for so long, and hopefully, will continue to do so—even if misguided libraries no longer bother to carry it.
A thriller classic.

I can't imagine the impact this had when it was new. The Jekyll/Hyde trope maybe commonplace nowadays, but when this was released it was a heck of a twist. A scientist presumably housing a monster turns out to be the monster. it explores man's duality. Our good and bad side, which biblically speaking would be a side-effect of living in a fallen world. Worth a read.

I enjoyed Bob’s reading of the book very much. The first parts were quite boring and confusing with no explanations whatsoever, but the last part ties everything together quite well. I enjoyed the message of the book quite a lot as well.

The reader has an incredibly soothing voice and reads the book at a pace that makes it easy to follow despite the complex vocabulary and intricatw synthax. I look forward to hearing more audiobooks by the same reader!

I am 27 and have heard the metaphor of "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" all my life but never had I actually read the book. It was a very good listen and I was not disappointed.
