The Palace in the Garden is the engaging story of three orphans sent to live in the mysterious country cottage of ROSEBUDS. The inquisitive children piece together the unexpected mystery of the Palace in the garden & all that goes with it. The story has a few twists. This book put me in mind of the Secret Garden.(Introduction by ilianthe) (4 hr 7 min)

Excellent Reading of Story for Young Girls

(5 stars)

The reading is excellent. The story is for young girls but I enjoyed it as an adult. As the reader suggested it reminded me of The Secret Garden.

The Palace in the Garden

(5 stars)

I echo the reviewer below -- shades of The Secret Garden. This is a charming story of childhood innocence from a lost era. The author does a great job of recreating the insular world of these sheltered siblings. Not sure how well modern kids, brought up in the democratic households of the 21st century, will relate to the Victorian upper middle class world of severe grandfathers, dutiful housemaids, and other domestics. But I liked it, so that's good enough, eh? A last word about the reader, Ilianthe. I enjoyed her pleasant youthful voice, good pacing, and general sense of fun. Students of ethnolinguistics will be interested to hear how the reader's accent changes through this book. Initially I thought she was from SE England, but by the end the Aussie came to dominate. Thank you! More please. TheBookworm (Manchester, UK -- and briefly of Bundoora, Oz)
