Little Women (version 3 dramatic reading)
Louisa May Alcott
Read by LibriVox Volunteers
Louisa May Alcott's beloved 1868 novel is about the four March girls - Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy - who are growing up in Massachusetts during the Civil War. As the novel opens, their father is away at war, and the girls are struggling to be good and to reconcile themselves to their relative poverty. Each has her trials to deal with, and they are encouraged by their loving mother, and by their friendship with their neighbor, Theodore "Laurie" Laurence.

Reviews
Excellent work as usual!
Lisa Duffy
Narrated by Elizabeth Klett this story was the usual excellent work from LibriVox. The cast of characters were brought to life by the dedicated volunteers of LibriVox, read with passion and sorrow that made me laugh and cry in turn. I have spent the last couple of days in a stupor while I listened to the lives of the March girls unfold and I am sure that they will stay with me for many years to come. I recommend this beautifully written classic to anyone who enjoys a free flowing story and well defined characters.
Thanks to all of the volunteers! Excellent reading!

When I first saw "dramatic reading section " I thought they will go way over the top and make it really pathetic. But everybody did the amazing job and really bring the characters alive! They also picked very good voice for each character. I was never that much into audio books but that was very enjoyable! Thanks to all the volunteers!
Great Cast

Little women was a favorite novel of mine as a young girl and it had been years since I read it. Loved every minute of the dramatic reading. It reminded of both why and how much I loved this classic. The cast did a wonderful job and it has been a delightful experience. Thank you.
Puts the Movie to Shame
A LibriVox Listener
Growing up I *thought* I had read Little Women, and certainly I had seen several of the movies dozens of times, but after listening to this I come to find I had read a dreadful ABRIDGED version of this tale and thus, did not truly know Little Women! Listening to it now, a grown mother, with many children in my care, I am astonished at Ms. Alcott's talent in character development as well as the tender descriptions which frame not only the lives of these characters but my own life as well. I see in myself in the unbridled tongue of Joe, the hope of Amy, the domesticity of Meg and, like most, I aspire to be more like Saintly Beth. The performances from the readers were better, honestly, than any audio book I have ever heard. Teddy was especially PERFECT as was Mr. Behr. I adored them both and swooned and chased my noisy children from the room at the most romantic moments so I could fully drink the characters in. Brilliant!

This is an excellent reading of this book. I loved all the different voices. The last time I read this book I was in 6th grade. I absolutely adored the characters and watching them grow and develop. The family relationships are so tenderly portrayed. it is hard to find that in current literature. This is a genuine classic and treasure.
Delightful!

I have always enjoyed this story, and the dramatic reading really brought it to life. All of the readers were excellent. There were a couple that had some sound quality issues, but that really didn't take away from the story or overall performance. Thank you, librivox for providing such quality audio books to the public for free.
wonderful listen

Such a wonderful version of a wonderful book! Elizabeth Klett is my favorite Librivox reader, and she does a fantastic job as the narrator and voice of Jo. My boys and I also adore Karen Savage and Kara Shallenberg, so we were very excited to find this dramatic reading with all 3 of these ladies.
