The original 1891 version of the play was in French. Three years later an English translation was published. The play tells in one act the Biblical story of Salome, stepdaughter of the tetrarch Herod Antipas, who, to her stepfather's dismay but to the delight of her mother Herodias, requests the head of Iokanaan (John the Baptist) on a silver platter as a reward for dancing the Dance of the Seven Veils. A beautiful, intense, dreamlike and poetic tragedy carried by a simply amazing lead performance by Arielle Lipshaw, who really steals the show!

interesting but boring

Could be Better

Some very sophomoric performances but not all together bad.

Let's face it, the only good thing about this is the name of Oscar Wilde. Repetitive, misogynistic and without a single character that is worthy of more than disgust, this is the kind of work that today should be forgotten.
