This speech was given March 23, 1775, at St. John's Church in Richmond, Virginia, and is credited with having singlehandedly convinced the Virginia House of Burgesses to pass a resolution delivering the Virginia troops to the Revolutionary War. In attendance were Thomas Jefferson and George Washington. Reportedly, the crowd, upon hearing the speech, jumped up and shouted, "To Arms! To Arms!"

Priceless words!!

(5 stars)

Listen to the passion of Patrick Henry's words. This narrator used awesome effects to sound as if he were giving the speech in a great hall. This narrator really makes his words stand out! I felt as if I were there in 1775 listening with my eyes closed. The narrator does a fantastic job of bringing Patrick Henry's words to life with a matter of fact spot on performance worthy of an award! He starts out matter of factly and his words crescendo with a true patriot willing to die to save his country, to start being independent and stand up to British tyranny that has plagued them for 10 years!

Excellent reading!

This reading is a very fine piece of oratory. It's not just a reading, but a recreation of the original speech, in the style of the day, but in our accents, very well acted. I got chills!

The reader makes a speech out of this! Every history class should hear it.

Grateful beneficiary.

Wow. No reasonable being would ever wish conflict, yet any person with beating heart could remain unmoved by the petition and faith of Honorable Mr Henry. Would that these words never be needed again, alas the world is in commotion. May God continue to bless this nation and protect those upon diverse fields of battle in this day! I've listened to many of the readers works and recommend them all.

Superb

It is immediately apparent that Patrick Henry was a great orator, and this short recording reflects it greatly. The beginning half doss not carry as much sway as the second half, but the substance in both makes up for it. I am glad to be able to hear a speech of the founding fathers, and the end makes me want to rise up and stand with them as well.

Powerful Reading

Mark F. Smith provides an excellent reading of Give Me Liberty which brings the words to life. The reverberating echo makes it sound like he is actually in a chamber powerfully proclaiming the words of Patrick Henry.
