The Wide, Wide World
Susan Warner
Read by Bridget Gaige
"How should a seven year old child react when forced to be separated from a mother who meant everything to her? How should she react when she learns that the aunt with whom she was sent to live doesn't really care about her? Will she be able to make real friendships with people outside her family? Would she be able to take her belief in God as a comfort? If you want to find answers to all these questions, read the enjoyable novel "The Wide, Wide World". There, you will see how the amazing Ellen Montgomery reacts to all those things, and many, many more".

Faith of an Young Girl
Dragonflyer
The reading of this book is excellent. The book is more sermon and scripture than plot. The scriptures are to comfort the girl and to keep her steadfast to goodness. The Christian tenants will likely appear very strict to the modern listener, but there is still some value in its inspiration. It does end rather abruptly compared to the contrasting slow style of the rest of the book.
What a wonderful book!

Oh, how I enjoyed this book. I want to obtain a copy of it for myself. I travelled with Ellen through a maze of joy, pain, and sorrow, and rejoiced with her as she gained grace and victory in her Christian walk. A very good book for anyone to read. The reader does an excellent job.

Lachrymose!

I remember only two chapters in which the young heroine didn't dissolve into tears. I am a lifelong, born again Christian, but the religion crushing little Ellen in this book is pathological scrupulocity and guilt, not trust in a loving God. Not sure why I finished it--maybe I hoped Ellen would learn to get through the day without weeping...
Highly Recommended!

This was my first Susan Warner book, and it was delightful. The narrator is excellent, and the Biblical truths as well as many gems in this book are priceless. My biggest lesson from this book is how God uses trials for our good.
Heart-warning Story

I loved this book. In the first place, it is long. So you get hours of enjoyment. In second place, she really tries to please the Lord with her life. I love her fortitude. And faith. And perseverance. And love.
