When the King Came: Stories from the Four Gospels
George Hodges
Read by Laura Caldwell
THIS tells how once the King of Glory came from heaven to visit us here on earth and live amongst us; how He was born in Bethlehem and brought up in Nazareth; how He went about telling people of the Heavenly Kingdom, and doing good, ministering to the sick and the poor; how He was misunderstood, and disliked, and even hated, till at last they took Him in Jerusalem and nailed Him to a cross so that He died; and how, after that, He came to life again, and went back into heaven, promising to return. EXTRAORDINARY RENDITION OF THE GOSPEL
Avid Listener
I have never encountered a better tool for teaching the gospel to children. This is basically a "harmony of the gospels" told in a manner that children (or anyone) can easily grasp. Every parent and grandparent should get a copy of this. Actually, every church library should have a copy. It also would be nice if we could get this wonderful narrator with the book. THANK YOU.
One of the best audiobooks I have listened to.

I'm very partial to the Gospels, and besides the fact that the author put the Good Book to story, the reading is very well-done. Thank you Librivox.
highly recomended

being a child and the only Christian in my house, it makes understanding the gospel easier to understand. I am also blind, so God likes to test me.
Perfect for bedtime reading. Reader is excellent

This book had some good insights and for the most part the author’s story telling style was enjoyable. However, there were odd modernisations of the Biblical text. For example, wilderness became woods, priests were sometimes called ministers, synagogues were sometimes called churches and the teachers in Luke became doctors. The author also misquoted Bible, and included elements that weren’t culturally accurate. Admittedly at the time of writing perhaps he didn’t have access to the archeological information we have at present. But that doesn’t excuse the Biblical misquotes. But the aspect that bothered me the most were the large number of theological errors that he made throughout the book. For example, he stated at one point that Jesus came to help us to be good. For this reason I can’t recommend this book to listeners, particularly children. The narrator was excellent and I appreciate her hard work in recording this volume.
