Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar (half hour episodes)

Yours Truly Johnny Dollar related the adventures of "the man with the action-packed expense account." This has become a much-beloved series decades after it went off the air, and is now a favorite of collectors. Six actors played Johnny Dollar, the high-living insurance investigator, with fans enjoying Bob Bailey's work the most. From Fall 1955, the adventures were serialized from Monday to Friday in 15-minute episodes. That format lasted 65 weeks. The series then returned to the traditional half hour format. The actors who played the role of Dollar were: Charles Russell, January 1949 to January 1950 Edmond O'Brien, January 1950 to September 1952 John Lund, September 1952 to September 1954 Bob Bailey, October 1955 to November 1960 Bob Readick, November 1960 to June 1961 Mandel Kramer, June 1961 to September 1962 YTJD was one of the last two radio dramas from the Golden Age to leave the air. It and Suspense both had their final broadcasts on September 30, 1962. * * * These recordings are part of the Joe Hehn Memorial Collection. Mr. Hehn (1931-2020) was a pioneering collector of radio recordings when the hobby emerged in the 1960s. Digitizing his collection of reel tapes and discs is the effort of a wide range of North American volunteers, and includes assistance of some international collectors. The groups supporting this effort with their funds, time, technology and skills are the Old Time Radio Researchers and a small group of transcription disc preservationists who refer to themselves as the "The Knights of the Turning Table."
