Kids and adults are portrayed with all the richness of flaw and kindness that we see in life. The story’s resolution would feel perfect were there one more chapter. This additional chapter would involve mending bridges with the pet store owner. It would involve all of them finding a way to reestablish goodwill and express regret for consequences of hastiness, as both *Damage to living creatures and meager resources and *Damage to social connections of caring are often the result of many hasty-first-reactions. To work out a new balancing point for these souls to respect each other’s full human value … that is the intuitive chapter to conclude the cycle of growth in this lovely story.
