Schalldruck enhanced - Berliner Gramophone
Emile Berliner
Emile Berliner recites in German; then counts to twenty, first in German, then in French, then in English; then he sings. An enhanced and cleaned-up restoration of a 'lost' recording made in 1889. (To judge the quality of the restoration, listen from 1'30" where he speaks in English.) Sound file created from a paper print of a gramophone disc, from the "gramophone scrapbook" in the Emile Berliner papers at the Library of Congress, produced by Patrick Feaster using the "optical film soundtrack" method (see http://www.phonozoic.net/eep.html for information about the playback). Recorded in Hanover, Germany, 11 November 1889.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
