Reviews
a real soap opera

Good reader who does an excellent job with a tear-jerker of a story with lots of twists.

First off, the racist tropes in this book... wow! just, wow! This book is a product of it's time. So, just be warned about this point of view being pervasive throughout the book. Next, I was pleasantly surprised to see the novel was set in my native Versailles, Woodford County, Kentucky! I lived for a time on "Woodlawn Drive" in Versailles! What a thrill for this guy who often misses his "Old Kentucky Home!" The reader does a good job, but she does mispronounce "Versailles" using the French Pronunciation. But we all know it is actually pronounced, "Ver-Sails." I agree with others who say, "poor Mable!" She turned out to be a totally expendable prop character! Also, there were far too many instances where people from one part of the country just happened to show up in another at just the right time! But all's well that ends well so If you can get through the melodrama, it's a fun listen!
amazing story

nice twists, interesting characters, everything is just great about this book. Poor Mable's fate made me cry and Lena's smile with joy.
